Overview
Helicopter Pilots operate rotary-wing aircraft for offshore oil & gas crew transport (Pawan Hans, GAL Helicorp, Heligo Charters), VIP / executive transport, news media, disaster relief and search-and-rescue, tourism (heli-tourism in Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Kerala), and emergency medical services (EMS). India's helicopter market is among the world's fastest-growing — pilgrim heli-services (Kedarnath, Amarnath, Vaishno Devi), the Defence helicopter fleets (Indian Army Aviation, Indian Air Force, Coast Guard), and the growing private charter market. CPL-H (Commercial Pilot Licence — Helicopter) is the core credential.
Day-to-day responsibilities
Conduct pre-flight inspection of the helicopter; review flight plan, weather, and NOTAMs; brief passengers on safety; execute take-off, en-route flight, and landing within DGCA airspace regulations; respond to weather changes and emergency situations; communicate with ATC; maintain aircraft logs per DGCA requirements; supervise refueling and weight-balance checks; for offshore: precision-landing on platform helipads in challenging conditions; for EMS: rapid response and patient-care coordination.
