Note: Full PG seat matrix across all 24 MD/MS and 14 DM/M.Ch specialties is published at aiimsexams.ac.in before each INI-CET/INI-SS session. Total PG seats across all specialties is approximately 76-102 per session.
MBBS admissions are conducted through NEET UG followed by MCC centralised counselling. AIIMS Bhubaneswar MBBS seats (125 per year) fall under the All India Quota pool. Candidates register on the MCC portal (mcc.nic.in) after qualifying NEET UG. Reservation follows central government norms: 27% OBC (non-creamy layer), 15% SC, 7.5% ST, and 10% EWS. There are no NRI, management, or state quota seats.
MD and MS postgraduate admissions are through INI-CET conducted by AIIMS New Delhi twice a year (January and July sessions). Candidates must hold an MBBS degree with one completed year of compulsory rotatory internship. Seat allotment is centralised at aiimsexams.ac.in across all participating AIIMS and JIPMER campuses.
DM and M.Ch super-specialty admissions are through INI-SS, also conducted by AIIMS New Delhi. An MD, MS, or DNB PG qualification in the relevant discipline is required. Seat matrices for DM and M.Ch programmes are published separately before each INI-SS session.
B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing and M.Sc Nursing admissions are through the common AIIMS Nursing Entrance Test conducted by AIIMS New Delhi for all participating AIIMS campuses. The B.Sc Nursing programme is open to female candidates only. Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English, minimum 45% aggregate (40% for SC/ST). M.Sc Nursing requires a B.Sc Nursing degree with at least 55% marks and one year of clinical experience.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar follows the same centrally mandated, heavily subsidised fee structure as all new AIIMS under PMSSY. The consolidated annual fee of Rs 5,856 covers tuition, hostel rent, gymkhana levy, pot fund contribution, electricity charges, and a refundable security deposit. This is among the lowest all-inclusive annual fees for any medical programme in India.
Mess charges are approximately Rs 4,000 per month and are billed separately on a self-sustaining, shared-cost basis. The total annual cost of attendance including mess is approximately Rs 53,000-54,000 per year, still well below comparable private medical college fees.
MBBS interns receive a monthly stipend of Rs 30,070 (revised January 2022 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare). This applies during the 12-month compulsory rotating internship conducted within the AIIMS Bhubaneswar teaching hospital.
PG Junior Residents (MD/MS/DM/M.Ch trainees) receive a monthly stipend of Rs 64,000 during their 3-year training. Senior Residents (post-PG, 3-year SR tenure) receive Rs 74,000 per month. Both amounts are centrally mandated by MoHFW and apply uniformly across all new AIIMS.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar's subsidised fee structure minimises financial burden for all admitted students. The following support mechanisms are available:
B.Sc Nursing and M.Sc Nursing students can access NSP post-matric scholarships and the PM-USP scheme. Applications go through scholarships.gov.in with income certificate and category documentation.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar's 100-acre campus is located at Sijua, Patrapada, Bhubaneswar, Odisha 751019. The campus integrates the medical college, nursing college, teaching hospital, research laboratories, and student residential facilities within a single site on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar city.
The teaching hospital has 900 beds across 43 departments. Major specialty units include a Level-1 Trauma Centre with 31 trauma and emergency beds plus 7 trauma ICU beds, a Burns Centre (unique facility for eastern India, inaugurated April 2025), Medical and Surgical Oncology units, Neurosurgery, Interventional Cardiology, and Neonatology. The Central Research Laboratory, inaugurated April 2025 by the Union Health Minister, focuses on biomedical research including metagenomics and molecular diagnostics.
Five student hostels (three for male, two for female) are located on campus. From the second year onwards, MBBS students have single-occupancy rooms with common bathroom facilities. First-year girl students share flat-type accommodation in groups of three; first-year boy students occupy double rooms. PG Junior Residents are provided separate residential quarters on campus. All hostel rooms are furnished with a bed, study table, chair, bookshelf, and wardrobe.
Patrapada is an urban locality within Bhubaneswar city. Bhubaneswar is well connected by air (Biju Patnaik International Airport, approximately 15 km from campus) and by rail (Bhubaneswar Railway Station on the Howrah-Chennai main line, approximately 10 km from campus). The campus has sports grounds, an indoor gymnasium, a canteen, and a banking facility. AIIMS Bhubaneswar also operates an AMRIT pharmacy offering medicines at reduced prices for patients and staff.
