Central University of Odisha was established in 2009 under the Central Universities Act, 2009, as the Central University of Orissa, sited in Koraput's KBK region, one of Odisha's most historically underserved districts for higher education. The university was formally renamed to its current name via the Central Universities (Amendment) Act, 2019.
Central University of Odisha's eleven schools cover Languages, Social Sciences, Education and Education Technology, Basic Sciences and Information Sciences, Biodiversity and Conservation of Natural Resources, Commerce and Management Studies, Applied Sciences, Integrated Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Life Sciences, offering an Integrated M.Sc. in Mathematics, B.Sc.(Hons.) programmes in Agriculture and Forestry, a B.Tech in Dairy Technology, and postgraduate programmes including MBA tracks in Business Administration and in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, M.A. programmes in Economics, Anthropology, Sociology, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, and Odia, M.Sc. programmes in Computer Science, Statistics, Botany, and Zoology, and a PhD across its departments.
Undergraduate admission runs through CUET-UG and postgraduate admission through CUET-PG, both administered by NTA, followed by the university's own online registration-cum-counselling process on its Samarth-based student portal, with staggered merit lists and, where seats remain vacant, a spot-admission round.
Central University of Odisha's most recent confirmed NAAC result is a First Cycle Grade B+ with a CGPA of 2.59, awarded in October 2017 and lapsed under NAAC's standard five-year validity, with no Second Cycle accreditation currently on record in NAAC's own database. The university submits data to NIRF each year but does not hold a rank in any published category as of the 2025 cycle.
Central University of Odisha has earned NAAC grade A with a CGPA of 3.01, placing it among accredited institutions recognised for teaching quality, research output, and campus infrastructure.
Programs at Central University of Odisha are approved by UGC — so your degree is recognised by employers, PSUs, and higher-education institutions across India and abroad.
With 2,000 students and 100 faculty members (~20:1 ratio), the campus offers close mentorship alongside broad peer-learning and student-activity opportunities.
Being located in Koraput, Odisha gives students access to internships, industry guest lectures, and a well-connected transport network — an advantage for placements and exposure.
