CEPT University, whose name stands for the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology, traces to 1962, established as the School of Architecture by the Ahmedabad Education Society under founding director B.V. Doshi, later the first Indian to win the Pritzker Prize. It became CEPT University via a Gujarat state act in 2005.
CEPT offers B.Arch, B.Design, B.Interior Design, B.Civil Engineering, and B.Urban Design at the undergraduate level, roughly fifteen named Master's programmes across its faculties, including Urban Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, and Construction Engineering and Management, and PhD in Architecture, Planning, and Technology.
B.Arch admission is based on 50% Class 12 marks plus 50% NATA score, the National Aptitude Test in Architecture, conducted by the Council of Architecture. B.Design admission uses UCEED scores. Postgraduate admission runs through the university's own CEPT PG Test, unless the applicant holds a valid GATE, UGC-NET, or, for international applicants, GRE score. The official B.Arch fee for the 2026-27 cycle is ₹5,08,000 per annum per student.
CEPT ranked 6th nationally in NIRF 2025's Architecture and Planning category, score 65.73, confirmed directly on nirfindia.org, its fifth consecutive year in that category's top 10. It does not currently hold a NAAC grade: its own official recognition disclosure lists several other credentials, UGC Section 2(f), DSIR SIRO status, and Centre-of-Excellence recognition from both the Gujarat state and central governments, but makes no mention of NAAC anywhere.
CEPT University has earned NAAC grade A with a CGPA of 3.28, placing it among accredited institutions recognised for teaching quality, research output, and campus infrastructure.
Programs at CEPT University are approved by UGC — so your degree is recognised by employers, PSUs, and higher-education institutions across India and abroad.
Founded in 1962, CEPT University brings 64+ years of institutional experience, strong alumni networks, and mature placement processes built over decades.
With 3,000 students and 150 faculty members (~20:1 ratio), the campus offers close mentorship alongside broad peer-learning and student-activity opportunities.
Being located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat gives students access to internships, industry guest lectures, and a well-connected transport network — an advantage for placements and exposure.
CEPT's alumni include Rahul Mehrotra, Chair of Urban Planning and Design at Harvard Graduate School of Design; Bimal Patel, former CEPT President, Padma Shri recipient, and architect of the Central Vista redevelopment; Aarati Kanekar, architectural theorist at the University of Cincinnati; and Arpan Shah, who worked under founding director B.V. Doshi before founding Modo Designs.
