The University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore (UAS Bangalore, also known by its GKVK campus name) is a state agricultural university established under the Karnataka Universities of Agricultural Sciences Act, 1963. Its main campus at Gandhi Krishi Vigyana Kendra, Bengaluru, was inaugurated in 1969 by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The university holds NAAC Grade A+ accreditation and ranked 11th nationally in NIRF's 2025 Agriculture and Allied Sectors category. Following an April 2025 restructuring that created a new University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya, UAS Bangalore today runs three constituent colleges from its GKVK campus and at Chintamani.
UAS Bangalore traces its origins to an agricultural research farm established at Hebbal in 1899, later formalised as the Mysore Agriculture Residential School in 1913 and Agriculture College Hebbal in 1946. The present university was constituted under Karnataka's 1963 Act, and its GKVK campus, granted 1,300 acres in 1963, was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1969.
Following the April 2025 creation of a separate University of Agricultural Sciences, Mandya, UAS Bangalore's teaching mandate is now concentrated at its GKVK campus and at Chintamani: College of Agriculture, College of Agricultural Engineering, and College of Sericulture. The university also runs an Institute of Agri-Business Management and an Institute of Baking Technology and Value Addition, both at GKVK.
