Overview
Defence officers serve in the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force as commissioned officers leading troops, ships, or aircraft. Officers join through NDA (National Defence Academy after 12th), CDSE (Combined Defence Services Exam after graduation), AFCAT (for Air Force), Indian Naval Academy entry routes, plus the Officers Training Academy (OTA) for short-service commissions. The career combines structured leadership progression, comprehensive benefits (housing, medical, pension), and the prestige of commissioned-officer status. The Agnipath scheme has changed entry-level enlisted recruitment but officer entry pathways remain unchanged.
