Overview
Flight Dispatchers (also called Flight Operations Officers or FOOs) plan and monitor flights — calculating fuel requirements, plotting optimal routes, monitoring weather, and sharing joint responsibility with the captain for the safe operation of each flight. The role is critical at every commercial airline. The DGCA recently mandated FOO licensing in India aligning with ICAO Annex 1 standards. With India's commercial aviation expansion, demand has grown sharply at IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet, Akasa Air, and Air India Express. Pay reflects the significant responsibility — FOOs share legal accountability with captains for flight safety.
