Daulat Ram College was founded in 1960 by educationist Shri Daulat Ram Gupta as a women's institution on the North Campus of the University of Delhi in Maurice Nagar. Originally called Pramila College, it was renamed in 1961 in honour of its founder. The college is government-aided, affiliated to and degree-conferring through the University of Delhi, and admits women candidates only through CUET-UG via the centrally managed DU CSAS portal. In NIRF 2025 it ranked 26th in the Colleges category with a score of 64.56, up from approximately 72nd in 2024.
The college has approximately 3,546 enrolled students across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with around 185 faculty members across 17 departments. Disciplines span Arts and Social Sciences including Economics, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Political Science, Philosophy, History, and Psychology; Commerce through BCom; and Sciences including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, and Biochemistry. The Nutrition and Health Education (NHE) department, established in 1984, is the oldest of its kind in Delhi University. The library holds more than 115,000 titles. The college carries a Star College designation from the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.
Undergraduate admission is entirely through CUET-UG, with seats allotted by the DU CSAS portal across multiple rounds based on CUET scores and preferences. Candidates must appear for the relevant domain subjects (for example, Mathematics and Physics for Physics Honours; English and Economics for Economics Honours). In the 2025 CSAS Round 1, closing scores for general category applicants ranged from approximately 874 for BA (Hons.) Psychology to around 421 for BSc (Hons.) Physics. BCom (Hons.) closed at about 865. Official round-wise cutoffs are published on ugadmission.uod.ac.in each season and should be used as the reference for planning preferences.
The college offers named endowment scholarships funded by institutional resources: the Silver Jubilee Merit Scholarship (top three students in first and second year), the Dr Balmukund Tandon Memorial Scholarship (BA Honours English second-year topper), the Shri Sultan Chand Memorial Scholarship (BCom toppers across all three years), the Smt Vidyawati Kapur Scholarship (best visually impaired student of the year), and the Kanta Sharma Memorial Scholarship (MA Hindi student with highest BA Hindi Honours score).
Government and external schemes available through the college include the INSPIRE Scholarship (DST, Science students in the top 1% at Class 12), post-matric scholarships for SC/ST/OBC/EWS categories via the Delhi government, the AICTE-PMSSS for J&K students, and the NSP-based YS Scholarship for first-generation rural students from families earning below Rs 2.5 lakh per year.
DRC ranked 26th in NIRF 2025 Colleges with a score of 64.56, up from around 72nd in 2024. The Teaching, Learning and Resources sub-score was 72.74 and the Outreach and Inclusivity sub-score was 74.60, reflecting the breadth of the student body and the depth of academic support. For a government-aided DU women's college, rank 26 nationally places it alongside and above several well-known DU colleges.
Annual tuition is approximately Rs 16,000 to Rs 20,000 under DU's centralised fee structure, among the lowest for a top-30 NIRF college in India. The degree is awarded by the University of Delhi, which carries strong recognition with employers and admission committees for postgraduate programmes across India and abroad.
The college offers BSc (Hons.) in six science disciplines, BCom (Hons.), and BA (Hons.) in eight arts and social science subjects, alongside postgraduate programmes. This range is uncommon in a single women's college, and students can pursue interdisciplinary interests through the Foundation of Multidisciplinary Studies component under the NEP-aligned four-year undergraduate curriculum.
The placement cell, Vriddhi, runs an annual career and internship fair (Incrementum, with 40+ companies in the 2024 edition), and maintains recruiter relationships with consulting, finance, BFSI, and analytics firms. The North Campus location in Delhi gives students direct access to internship and entry-level hiring markets in one of India's largest employment centres.
Five institutionally funded merit scholarships are awarded each year across arts, commerce, and science streams. Students also have access to government and external schemes including INSPIRE, NSP, post-matric state scholarships, and the YS Scholarship for first-generation rural students from low-income families.
Honest caveat: Admission to DRC is entirely by CUET-UG score through the DU CSAS portal; there is no interview, extracurricular weightage, or institutional quota. Psychology Honours and BCom Honours closed at approximately 874 and 865 respectively in CSAS 2025 Round 1 for general category applicants. These are among the highest cutoffs at any DU women's college, and aspirants should run through CSAS preference simulation tools before assuming a seat is achievable.
DRC does not publish numerical placement statistics on its official placement cell page. The NIRF 2025 data implies a UG median package in the range of Rs 5 LPA. Outcomes vary significantly by programme: BCom and Economics graduates frequently progress to CA, CFA, or MBA pathways, while science graduates often continue to MSc, GATE, or research programmes before entering industry. Students who expect immediate high-paying employment from a three or four-year arts or science undergraduate degree at DRC are likely to be disappointed; postgraduate study or competitive examination preparation is the standard next step for most streams.
