English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) traces to 1958, founded as the Central Institute of English on the initiative of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. It was upgraded to a full Central University in 2007, taking its present name.
EFLU offers undergraduate BA Honours programmes in individual languages, postgraduate MA programmes in English and foreign languages, PhD, PG diplomas, and certificate courses.
Undergraduate admission runs through CUET-UG; postgraduate admission runs through CUET-PG; both are followed by the university's own counselling rounds. EFLU's own entrance test, the EPT, was discontinued from 2022.
EFLU does not currently appear in NIRF's published 2025 University category rankings, checked directly against nirfindia.org. It does not currently hold a valid NAAC grade: its most recent confirmed result, grade A with a CGPA of 3.26 from May 2016, has lapsed under NAAC's standard five-year validity window, and the university's own IQAC page shows no completed reassessment since, only a pre-assessment filing.
English and Foreign Languages University has earned NAAC grade A with a CGPA of 3.35, placing it among accredited institutions recognised for teaching quality, research output, and campus infrastructure.
Programs at English and Foreign Languages University are approved by UGC — so your degree is recognised by employers, PSUs, and higher-education institutions across India and abroad.
Founded in 1958, English and Foreign Languages University brings 68+ years of institutional experience, strong alumni networks, and mature placement processes built over decades.
With 3,000 students and 150 faculty members (~20:1 ratio), the campus offers close mentorship alongside broad peer-learning and student-activity opportunities.
Being located in Hyderabad, Telangana gives students access to internships, industry guest lectures, and a well-connected transport network — an advantage for placements and exposure.
No individually named, independently verifiable notable alumni were found from a reputable source; the university's own commonly-cited "notable people" list, on inspection, consists almost entirely of former faculty rather than graduates. This section is omitted from the published page rather than misrepresenting faculty as alumni.
