Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), known as IP University, is Delhi's state affiliating university established in 1998. Accredited A++ by NAAC (4th Cycle, 2023) and ranked #22 in NIRF 2025 Law, #36 in Architecture, and #76 in Management, it is one of the few state universities in India with top-25 recognition across multiple disciplines. Engineering, law, management, architecture, pharmacy, and computing are all available on its main campus at Dwarka, New Delhi, through University Schools admitting via JEE Main, CLAT, NATA, and CAT at state-regulated fees.

Honest caveat

GGSIPU is an affiliating university, and outcomes vary significantly across its more than 100 affiliated colleges. The NIRF rankings, NAAC grade, and USICT placement data described here reflect the main Dwarka campus and its University Schools, not all affiliated institutions. An applicant admitted to an affiliated private engineering or management college that awards a GGSIPU degree should evaluate that institution's own NIRF or NAAC status, infrastructure, and placement record independently. The university umbrella does not automatically extend the main-campus quality to affiliated colleges.

GGSIPU B.Tech admission at USICT is through JEE Main and IPU online counselling, which runs separately from JAC Delhi counselling. Applicants applying to both systems must track two separate counselling calendars and choice-filling windows. IPU counselling does not accept JAC seat locks, and missing an IPU round-specific window typically means losing that branch preference. Applicants should monitor ipu.admissions.nic.in carefully in parallel with any other counselling they participate in.

Admissions

Admission at GGSIPU varies by programme; all routes converge at IPU's centralised online counselling portal at ipu.admissions.nic.in.

B.Tech (USICT main campus): JEE Main Paper 1 score followed by IPU online counselling rounds (CET Code 131). GGSIPU does not participate in JAC Delhi; a separate IPU counselling registration is required. USICT CSE and IT branches are highly competitive; exact round-wise cutoffs are published after each counselling round at ipu.admissions.nic.in. Check prior-year cutoff PDFs on the official portal for planning purposes.

BA LLB and BBA LLB (USLLS): CLAT score followed by IPU counselling (CET Code 121). USLLS has 100 seats total on the main campus. CLAT general-category closing ranks at USLLS have historically ranged in the low thousands to mid-teens, making it accessible for candidates who do not clear the top National Law Universities.

B.Arch (USAP): NATA score combined with IPU CET (CET Code 100), followed by IPU counselling. Minimum eligibility: 10+2 with Mathematics, 50% aggregate. Seats: 80 at USAP main campus.

MBA (USMS): CAT score (primary shortlist), with CMAT as an additional route, followed by IPU counselling. Duration 2 years; intake approximately 60 seats at the main campus.

Other programmes (BCA, BBA, B.Sc, BA, MA, MCA): CUET UG or PG scores, or IPU CET depending on the programme, followed by IPU counselling. Check ipu.admissions.nic.in for the applicable CET code per programme.

Fees

Fees are set by the Delhi State Fee Regulatory Committee (SFRC) and revised periodically. Confirm the current-year schedule at ipu.ac.in or the IPU counselling portal.

Hostel (main campus): room charge approximately Rs 35,000 per year; mess approximately Rs 46,000 per year billed separately. Total accommodation cost approximately Rs 81,000 per year. Refundable deposit applicable at admission.

Scholarships

GGSIPU students are eligible for multiple state and central scholarship schemes. The Government of NCT of Delhi's Merit-cum-Means Linked Financial Assistance Scheme provides up to 25 percent tuition fee reimbursement for students with annual family income between Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 6 lakh enrolled in UG courses at Delhi state universities. The EWS scheme provides additional fee concession for family income below Rs 8 lakh. The DLF Raghvendra Scholarship, nominated by IPU's Dean of Student Welfare, covers tuition and hostel costs for up to four meritorious students annually. Central government scholarships for SC/ST, OBC, and minority-category students are available through the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in.

Hostel and campus

The Dwarka main campus covers approximately 60 acres at Sector 16C and houses teaching blocks for all University Schools, a central library, sports facilities including a gymnasium and athletic tracks, a canteen, and an SBI ATM. Four student hostels are on campus: two boys hostels (Shivalik and Aravali) and two girls hostels (Nilgiri and Satpura), with a combined capacity of approximately 720 seats. Annual room charges are approximately Rs 35,000 per year; mess charges are approximately Rs 46,000 per year billed separately. Priority for hostel allocation is given to outstation students.

The campus is served by the Delhi Metro Blue Line: the nearest stations are Dwarka Sector 10 (approximately 1.5 km) and Dwarka Sector 21 (approximately 3.5 km). Indira Gandhi International Airport is approximately 15 kilometres away. The Metro connectivity makes the campus accessible from most parts of NCR without requiring personal transport.

In NIRF 2025, GGSIPU is ranked across five categories: Law #22 (score 60.05), Architecture #36 (score 51.00), Management #76 (score 48.88), State Public University #22 (score 57.49), and University #93 (score 48.01). The Law and Architecture rankings reflect the main campus USLLS and USAP schools, which are among Delhi's most competitive professional programmes for applicants who do not clear the National Law Universities. The Engineering category places GGSIPU in the 101-150 rank band nationally in 2025.

Placement outcomes at the main campus USICT have improved over successive batches. In 2023-24, 32 companies recruited from USICT and extended 126 job offers, with the highest package at Rs 45 LPA (Adobe) and an average of approximately Rs 12 LPA among placed students. Recurring recruiters include Amazon, Adobe, Rapido, Corning, Cvent, TCS, and ABInBev. These figures apply to USICT students at the Dwarka campus; outcomes at GGSIPU affiliated engineering colleges vary significantly by institution and should be researched independently.
