IIT Goa waives tuition fees for SC, ST, and differently-abled students meeting the prescribed family income threshold under central government norms (annually revised by the Ministry of Education). Students from EWS and OBC categories may apply for central government merit-cum-means and Post Matric Scholarship schemes through the National Scholarship Portal. Detailed eligibility criteria and the tuition waiver quantum are published at iitgoa.ac.in under the student financial assistance section.
IIT Goa currently operates from the Goa Engineering College campus at Farmagudi, Ponda, approximately 29 km southeast of Panaji. Student hostels with shared mess, wi-fi, and sports facilities are available on the GEC campus. The permanent 240-acre campus at Melauli, Sattari, North Goa, is under active construction; students admitted now can expect a phased transition during their programme. The Farmagudi campus is connected by road to Panaji, Margao, and Goa International Airport.
Indian Institute of Technology Goa was established on 30 July 2016 by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, as part of the second wave of new IITs, with IIT Bombay serving as the mentor institution for its initial years. The institute operates as an autonomous body with the status of an Institute of National Importance, empowered to award its own degrees. The Director is Prof. Dhirendra S. Katti. Four B.Tech programmes (Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computing, and Mechanical Engineering) are offered, along with M.Tech programmes via GATE and a PhD programme across six schools.
IIT Goa currently operates from a shared temporary campus at the Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi, Ponda, Goa, approximately 29 km from Panaji. The Government of Goa allotted 240 acres of revenue land at Melauli village, Sattari district, North Goa, for a permanent campus, approved by the state cabinet in August 2019. Permanent campus construction is under way; students admitted now should expect a transition to the Sattari campus during their programme.
For the 2024-25 placement season, IIT Goa placed approximately 113 students with a B.Tech average of Rs 18.85 LPA, a median of Rs 12.67 LPA, and a highest domestic offer of Rs 60 LPA. The 2023-24 season placed 116 students at a B.Tech average of Rs 15.92 LPA and median of Rs 13 LPA. NIRF 2025 placed IIT Goa in the Engineering band 101-150, consistent with the NIRF 2024 band. The institute did not appear in NIRF 2023 Engineering rankings.
IIT Goa is an Institute of National Importance awarding B.Tech degrees with the same statutory weight as any IIT. JoSAA 2025 Round 6 Open (GN) closing ranks: CSE 6,242; MnC 7,932; EE 10,095; ME 13,451. A batch of approximately 165 total B.Tech seats gives students strong faculty-student ratios and early research access.
The MnC B.Tech combines core computer science with advanced mathematics (algorithms, combinatorics, probability), suited to quantitative finance, analytics, and research roles. JoSAA 2025 MnC closing rank 7,932 (Open). DE Shaw and Goldman Sachs recruited from IIT Goa in 2024-25.
2024-25: B.Tech avg Rs 18.85 LPA, median Rs 12.67 LPA, highest domestic Rs 60 LPA; 2023-24: avg Rs 15.92 LPA, median Rs 13 LPA, 116 placed. Recruiters include Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, DE Shaw, Texas Instruments, GE Aerospace, Siemens EDA, and MathWorks.
The temporary campus in Farmagudi, Ponda, is about 29 km from Panaji and 45 km from Goa International Airport. Goa's growing technology and startup ecosystem, proximity to Pune and Mumbai, and quality of life offer informal networking and internship access across western India.
The allotted 240-acre campus at Melauli, Sattari district, will give IIT Goa a self-contained residential campus; construction is funded by the central government and phase commissioning is under way.
Honest caveat: IIT Goa was established in 2016 and still operates from a shared temporary campus at Goa Engineering College in Farmagudi; the permanent Sattari campus is under construction with no confirmed full-occupancy date. The B.Tech median of Rs 12.67 LPA in 2024-25 is notably lower than the average of Rs 18.85 LPA, reflecting a spread across branches and roles, with Mechanical Engineering averaging Rs 12.37 LPA versus CSE at Rs 16.15 LPA and MnC at Rs 18.61 LPA. NIRF 2025 Engineering band is 101-150 without a published numerical score. Fee figures are based on aggregator sources; verify the current schedule at iitgoa.ac.in before applying.
