IIT Jammu implements a graduated tuition fee waiver: students from families with annual income below Rs 1 lakh receive a full tuition waiver; income between Rs 1 and Rs 5 lakh per year qualifies for a two-thirds waiver. SC, ST, and differently-abled students receive a full tuition waiver regardless of income. Students from OBC and EWS categories may additionally apply for central government Post Matric and merit-cum-means scholarship schemes through the National Scholarship Portal. The permanent campus at Jagti, NH-44, Nagrota, Jammu, J&K 181221, covers 400 acres at the foothills of the Shivalik range, about 17 km from Jammu Airport and 19 km from Jammu Tawi Railway Station. All B.Tech and M.Tech students are housed in on-campus gender-segregated hostels with furnished rooms, mess, wi-fi, 24-hour security, and sports and recreational facilities. Academic blocks, departmental labs, a library, a computing centre, and a health centre are fully operational on the Jagti campus.
Indian Institute of Technology Jammu was established in 2016 by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, as an Institute of National Importance, with IIT Delhi serving as the mentor institution. IIT Jammu offers Mathematics and Computing and Engineering Physics at the B.Tech level, uncommon among newer IITs, suited to students targeting quant finance, research, or semiconductor roles. CSE 2023-24 average was Rs 20.26 LPA with 100 per cent placement.
