Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR) is a constituent college of the University of Delhi, located at Lajpat Nagar-IV in South Delhi. Founded in 1956 by Sir Shri Ram as a gift to the nation, it is a women-only institution operating under the Government of Delhi on government-aided fees. NAAC has awarded it the A++ grade in Cycle 3, and NIRF 2025 ranks it 17th among all Indian colleges with a score of 69.87.
The academic portfolio covers ten BA (Hons) subjects: Economics, Political Science, English, Psychology, History, Sociology, Philosophy, Hindi, Sanskrit, and Journalism. Commerce and science are represented through BCom (Hons), BSc (Hons) in Mathematics and Statistics, and the four-year B.El.Ed teacher preparation programme. Postgraduate programmes in several humanities and science disciplines are available for continuing students. All undergraduate courses follow the NEP 2020 four-year structure.
Admission to all UG programmes is through CUET-UG followed by seat allocation via the DU CSAS portal. LSR is women-only at UG and PG levels. Reservation seats follow DU norms across OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS, PwBD, and Kashmiri Migrant categories.
The campus at Lajpat Nagar-IV is approximately 1.2 km from Lajpat Nagar Metro Station, which is an interchange of the Violet Line and Pink Line, connecting South Delhi to the rest of the city. An on-campus hostel accommodates first-year outstation women students with priority given to those living more than 40 km from the college.

LSR's NIRF rank is anchored by a Graduate Outcomes score of 94.69 out of 100 and a Perception score of 100 out of 100. For a student targeting economics, political science, or psychology, LSR offers consistently strong visibility among employers and postgraduate admissions committees in India. The breadth of BA Hons subjects, BCom Hons, and BSc Hons under one roof is hard to match at government-aided rates.
The annual fee for most BA Hons programmes is Rs 20,490, making the total four-year cost approximately Rs 81,960. BCom Hons and BSc Hons are under Rs 1.05 lakh for the full degree. PwBD students pay a flat Rs 1,550 per year. Among NIRF top-20 colleges nationally, very few charge as little for a four-year programme.
NIRF 2025 data for the 2023-24 cohort shows 350 students placed at a median salary of Rs 9.25 LPA, while 882 (68%) proceeded to postgraduate or doctoral programmes. The high higher-studies rate reflects preparation for competitive PG entrances, civil services, and research careers rather than immediate employment.
LSR administers 21 named scholarships covering Economics, Psychology, English, Hindi, Mathematics, Statistics, Journalism, and Sanskrit. Over 300 students receive full freeships annually based solely on financial need with no merit requirement. Government schemes via NSP, PM Scholarship, and Inspire (DST) are also available.
First-year outstation students can apply for the on-campus hostel with approximately 300 seats in furnished rooms with 24-hour electricity backup and Wi-Fi. The annual hostel charge is approximately Rs 68,000, keeping total first-year costs well under Rs 1 lakh for most humanities programmes. Lajpat Nagar Metro Station connects to Connaught Place, North Campus, and East Delhi directly.
Honest caveat: LSR does not offer engineering, medical, or management programmes. Students targeting professional degrees should apply elsewhere. The 27% direct placement rate appears low compared with professional colleges, but is explained by the 68% who choose postgraduate study over immediate employment.
