Marwadi University traces its roots to Marwadi Education Foundation, set up in 2008 under the Bombay Public Trust Act by the Marwadi Chandarana Group, promoters of Marwadi Shares and Finance Limited. The foundation's institutions were consolidated into Marwadi University in 2016 under the Gujarat Private Universities Act No. 9 of 2016, making it a comparatively young private university based in Rajkot.
The university is organised into faculties of Engineering and Technology, Management Studies, Computer Applications, Pharmacy, Law, Science, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Arts and Diploma Studies, along with PhD programmes across disciplines. Engineering and management remain its largest schools by number of specializations offered.
Marwadi University holds NAAC A+ accreditation with a CGPA of 3.31 out of 4, valid for the 2023-2028 cycle, and Tier-1 accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation for its engineering programmes, both firsts for a university in the Saurashtra region. It has also been designated a Centre of Excellence by the Government of Gujarat, one of seven institutions to receive that status.
The university enrolls more than 17,000 students, including over 1,700 international students from 54 countries under the Study in India initiative. It employs around 500 faculty members, of whom roughly 120 hold PhDs, supported by a total staff strength of about 750 across academic and administrative roles.
In NIRF's India Rankings 2025, Marwadi University appears in the university rank band 101-150, the pharmacy rank band 102-125, and the engineering rank band 201-300, placing it as a mid-tier nationally ranked institution rather than a top-50 university.
The university holds a NAAC A+ grade with a CGPA of 3.31 out of 4 for the 2023-2028 cycle, the first such rating for a university in the Saurashtra region.
Its engineering programmes carry Tier-1 accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation, again a first for a Saurashtra-based university.
The Placement and Corporate Relations department hosts more than 500 recruiting companies annually, with a reported highest package of Rs 34.5 lakh per annum.
More than 1,700 international students from 54 countries are enrolled under the Study in India programme, supported by tuition-waiver scholarships.
Marwadi University is one of seven institutions in Gujarat designated a Centre of Excellence by the state government.
Honest caveat: Marwadi University became a full university only in 2016, so it has a shorter independent academic track record than older Gujarat state universities. Its NIRF 2025 standing falls in the 101-150 band for universities overall and 201-300 for engineering, both mid-tier nationally rather than top-ranked. As a private university, per-semester tuition for B.Tech programmes (roughly Rs 57,500 to Rs 87,500) is markedly higher than government college fees in Gujarat.
Marwadi University runs six on-campus hostel blocks (Hostel A, B, C and D) with a combined capacity above 3,500 students, offering 2, 4, 6 and 8-bed AC and non-AC rooms with attached or common washrooms. Fees include vegetarian dining and laundry, and the university also arranges off-campus hostel tie-ups with transport for overflow demand.
10 courses offered. Fees in INR lakhs.
