NIFT Bengaluru opened in 1997 as the seventh campus in the NIFT network, at HSR Layout Sector 1, with Fashion Design and Master of Fashion Management as its founding programmes. The campus sits roughly 48 km from Bengaluru International Airport and around 17 km from the City Railway Station and Majestic bus station, both reachable by dedicated BMTC bus routes.
The campus offers eight programmes for the current admission cycle, five four-year Bachelor of Design specialisations, Accessory Design, Fashion Communication, Fashion Design, Knitwear Design and Textile Design, a Bachelor of Fashion Technology in Apparel Production, and two postgraduate degrees, Master of Design and Master of Fashion Management. All 304 seats carry no state-domicile quota, alongside five supernumerary NRI seats per programme. A Master of Fashion Technology cohort remains enrolled from an earlier intake, but the current official seat matrix allocates no fresh Master of Fashion Technology seats to Bengaluru.
Admission runs through the NIFT Entrance Examination, NIFTEE, conducted by the National Testing Agency. Bachelor of Design applicants sit a General Ability Test and Creative Ability Test followed by a Situation Test, Bachelor of Fashion Technology applicants are shortlisted on the General Ability Test alone, and postgraduate applicants proceed to a Personal Interview after the written stage. The campus's hostel accommodates girls only, with 144 rooms; male students are required to arrange their own accommodation off campus.
No NAAC accreditation is held by NIFT Bangalore or any NIFT campus; the institute's own credentials page makes no NAAC claim, and a widely-repeated "NAAC A++" claim traces to a Government scholarship-eligibility circular describing unrelated institutions' accreditation categories, not NIFT's own status. No NIRF rank exists for NIFT Bangalore since NIRF publishes no Design or Fashion category in either its 2024 or 2025 rankings.
Programs at National Institute of Fashion Technology Bangalore are approved by UGC — so your degree is recognised by employers, PSUs, and higher-education institutions across India and abroad.
Founded in 1986, National Institute of Fashion Technology Bangalore brings 40+ years of institutional experience, strong alumni networks, and mature placement processes built over decades.
With 400 students and 30 faculty members (~13.3:1 ratio), the campus offers close mentorship alongside broad peer-learning and student-activity opportunities.
Being located in Bengaluru, Karnataka gives students access to internships, industry guest lectures, and a well-connected transport network — an advantage for placements and exposure.
