Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) traces its origin to the Temple Medical School, established in Patna in 1874 with 30 students. The school was upgraded and formally inaugurated as Prince of Wales Medical College on 25 February 1925, later renamed Patna Medical College, making it one of the oldest medical colleges from the British India era.
The attached hospital began as Patna General Hospital, approved with 240 beds in 1918, and became a full medical college hospital with the 1925-26 conversion. The campus sits on Ashok Rajpath, on the southern bank of the Ganges, within the wider Patna University Campus area.
