Overview
Backend developers build the server-side logic, databases, APIs, and infrastructure that power web and mobile applications. They are among the highest-volume hires at Indian product companies (Razorpay, Swiggy, PhonePe, CRED, Zerodha, Meesho), GCCs (Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Walmart Global Tech), and IT services firms. Demand is structurally Very High with a strong premium for distributed systems experience, performance optimisation, and API design skills.
Day-to-day responsibilities
Design and build REST and gRPC APIs; implement business logic in Java, Go, Python, Node.js, or Rust; design database schemas (Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB); optimise query performance and add indexes; write unit and integration tests; build and maintain CI/CD pipelines; debug production incidents; review pull requests; collaborate with frontend, mobile, and platform teams on contract design.
