Adikavi Nannaya University (AKNU) is a state university in Rajamahendravaram (Rajahmundry), East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, established in 2006 under Government of Andhra Pradesh Act No. 28 of 2006. It is named after Adikavi Nannaya, the 11th-century court poet credited as the first attested Telugu-language author for his translation of the Mahabharata into Telugu, and operates extension campuses at Kakinada and Tadepalligudem alongside its main Rajahmundry campus.
AKNU offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programmes across sciences, commerce, management, humanities, education, and law through its four constituent colleges and its wider affiliated network.
Admission to AKNU's MBA and MCA programmes uses AP-ICET scores, consistent with the standard Andhra Pradesh state-university admission pattern for these programmes; other undergraduate and postgraduate seats follow the university's own academic-calendar-based process.
AKNU does not currently appear in NIRF's University Ranking top-100 list for 2024 or 2025. It does appear as a participating institute in NIRF's State Public University category in both years but has not landed in a published ranked band. It holds a NAAC grade of B+ with a CGPA of 2.73, Cycle 1, declared 11 April 2023.
Adikavi Nannaya University has earned NAAC grade B+ with a CGPA of 2.9, placing it among accredited institutions recognised for teaching quality, research output, and campus infrastructure.
Programs at Adikavi Nannaya University are approved by AICTE, UGC — so your degree is recognised by employers, PSUs, and higher-education institutions across India and abroad.
With 50,000 students and 1,000 faculty members (~50:1 ratio), the campus offers close mentorship alongside broad peer-learning and student-activity opportunities.
