Under the IIM Act 2017, IIM Visakhapatnam is mandated to provide fee concessions for SC, ST, and differently-abled students meeting the prescribed income threshold. Students from EWS and OBC categories may also apply for central government merit-cum-means and Post Matric Scholarship schemes through the National Scholarship Portal. PGP students are housed at the residential Gambheeram campus with on-campus hostels, mess, library, sports and wellness facilities, and academic blocks commissioned in Phase I. The earlier Andhra University transit campus in central Visakhapatnam continues to host select executive and short-format programmes during the transition. The Gambheeram campus is located on NH-16, about 25 km from Visakhapatnam city centre, and is served by Visakhapatnam airport.
IIM Visakhapatnam was established in 2015 as part of the second wave of six new IIMs alongside IIM Amritsar, IIM Bodh Gaya, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Sirmaur, and IIM Nagpur. It operates under the IIM Act 2017, which grants it the statutory status of an Institution of National Importance and the authority to award its own MBA and PhD degrees. IIM Bangalore served as the mentor institution, shaping academic systems, curriculum frameworks, and early faculty pipelines. The Director is Prof. M Chandrasekhar; the Board of Governors is chaired by Shri Hari S. Bhartia, Co-Chairman and Founder of the Jubilant Bhartia Group.
For its first nine years, IIMV operated from a transit campus at the Andhra University campus in Visakhapatnam. On 20 February 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the permanent campus at Gambheeram Village, Anandapuram Mandal, Visakhapatnam 531163, Andhra Pradesh. The Government of Andhra Pradesh allotted 241.5 acres with an 80-foot approach road; Phase I was approved by the Government of India in September 2018 at Rs 445 crore (total DPR Rs 807.76 crore). The campus is designed to a GRIHA 5-star sustainability rating.
IIMV ranked 29th in NIRF 2025 Management with a score of 59.95, after ranking 26th in NIRF 2024 (score 59.20) and 29th in NIRF 2023 (score 57.57), maintaining a consistent top-30 presence among management institutions. The institute holds AACSB membership (in accreditation process) and BGA/AMBA membership, and is a signatory to PRME and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network. It is also a DSIR-recognised Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation.
The PGP 2023-25 batch recorded a 100 per cent placement rate for eligible students, with an average CTC of Rs 16.4 LPA, a median of Rs 16.0 LPA, and a highest CTC of Rs 32.5 LPA as reported on the official placement page. The PGP 2022-24 batch reported an average of Rs 15.61 LPA, median Rs 15.5 LPA, and highest Rs 43.25 LPA. Recruiters spanning IT services, consulting, BFSI, FMCG, e-commerce, and general management participate in both summer internship and final placement seasons.
IIMV grants its MBA under the IIM Act 2017 with the same statutory weight as IIM Ahmedabad or Calcutta, on a cohort of about 340 PGP seats where students get meaningful faculty and director access. Women representation is consistently around 40 per cent in PGP intake, with a diverse academic and work-experience mix across the batch.

The PGP in Digital Governance and Management, run with MeitY and the National e-Governance Division since 2019, is one of the only IIM-run MBA programmes focused on digital public infrastructure, e-governance policy, and policy-tech management. It includes a two-week International Immersion module.
The 241.5-acre campus at Gambheeram Village, inaugurated by PM Modi on 20 February 2024, is designed to GRIHA 5-star sustainability standards with a Phase I project cost of Rs 445 crore. Residential PGP housing is on-campus, with academic blocks, a library, sports and wellness facilities, and a mess being commissioned in stages.
IIM Bangalore shaped curriculum templates, faculty recruitment systems, and early visiting-faculty pipelines since the founding 2015 cohort. The Board of Governors includes Hari S. Bhartia (Jubilant Bhartia), Amitabh Chaudhry (MD and CEO, Axis Bank), and Satish Reddy (Chairman, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories).
Honest caveat: IIM Visakhapatnam was established in 2015 and its recruiter brand recall and alumni network are still building compared with the older IIMs in the top 10. The permanent Gambheeram campus opened in February 2024 and Phase I infrastructure is being completed in stages. Visakhapatnam is geographically distant from the major corporate hubs of Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, and Hyderabad, which can affect on-campus recruiter footfall and internship logistics. The PGP fee for the 2026-28 batch is Rs 23.59 lakh total; students should verify the current fee schedule at iimv.ac.in before applying.
