Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV), Mohanpur is a state agricultural university in Nadia district, West Bengal, established in 1974 under West Bengal Act XLIX of 1974. It holds ICAR Grade C accreditation and ranked 16th nationally in NIRF's 2025 Agriculture and Allied Sectors category. BCKV runs three faculties at its Mohanpur main campus, agriculture, horticulture, and agricultural engineering, plus two extended undergraduate-only campuses at Burdwan and Bankura, after its veterinary faculty split off in 1995 and its North Bengal campus split off entirely in 2001.
BCKV has released crop varieties under its "Bidhan" naming convention across rice, jute, grasspea, marigold, cowpea, chilli, and brinjal, alongside a Trombay Bidhan mustard variety developed jointly with BARC. Its most recent NIRF disclosure reports 145 sponsored research projects from 42 funding agencies in the most recently reported year, alongside seven patents published. The university operates four Krishi Vigyan Kendras, in Hooghly, Howrah, Nadia, and Purba Medinipur districts, and research stations including Gayeshpur, Jhargram, and Kakdwip.
BCKV was established in 1974 at Mohanpur, Nadia district, originally comprising faculties of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences. Two restructurings have shaped its current footprint. In 1995, its Faculty of Veterinary Sciences was carved out to form the West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences. In 2001, BCKV's North Bengal campus at Pundibari, Cooch Behar, became an independent university, Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya, serving West Bengal's eight northern districts. BCKV today runs three faculties at its Mohanpur main campus, plus two undergraduate-only extended campuses established more recently, at Burdwan in 2014 and Bankura in 2015.
BCKV's ICAR accreditation carries Grade C, the lowest grade among the state agricultural universities researched across this batch, valid 28 June 2021 to 27 June 2026. That accreditation covers only BCKV's three Mohanpur colleges, not its Burdwan or Bankura campuses.
