Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCS HAU), Hisar, is a state agricultural university established on 2 February 1970 by Parliament Act No. 16 of 1970, on the bifurcation of the erstwhile Punjab Agricultural University. It holds ICAR-NAEAB 'A+' accreditation, awarded in 2024, and ranked 10th nationally in NIRF's 2025 Agriculture and Allied Sectors category. The university runs nine constituent colleges from its 2,922-hectare Hisar campus, covering agriculture, agricultural engineering, biotechnology, fisheries, community science, and business management, but not veterinary science, which moved to a separate university in 2010.
CCS HAU was founded to serve Haryana's agricultural economy following the state's creation in 1966, initially as Haryana Agricultural University before its 1991 renaming in honour of the former Prime Minister and farmer-leader Chaudhary Charan Singh. The university's own account of its impact is specific: Haryana's food-grain production rose from 4.8 million tonnes in 1970-71 to 18.4 million tonnes in 2019-20, a period during which the university released well over 300 crop varieties and hybrids.
The university today runs nine constituent colleges: College of Agriculture, three additional agriculture colleges at Kaul, Bawal and the newly established Kishanpura, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, Indira Chakravarty College of Community Science, College of Biotechnology, and College of Fisheries Science, alongside a Gurugram-based Institute of Business Management and Agripreneurship still under construction. It holds no veterinary programme. That faculty was carved out to form LUVAS in 2010, and any listing that still shows a veterinary degree at CCS HAU is out of date.

The university maintains an international exchange programme with over 25 partner institutions, with current international students drawn from Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, and several African countries, among others.

It graduated 130 Ph.D. scholars that year, with roughly 700 full-time Ph.D. scholars on roll at any time. CCS HAU documents 265 released crop varieties and hybrids crop-by-crop in its own published compendium, updated to "over 317" in its current prospectus, credited in the university's own account with underpinning Haryana's rise in food-grain output from 4.8 to 18.4 million tonnes between 1970-71 and 2019-20.
