Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya

Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya (GGV), Bilaspur, began in 1983 as Guru Ghasidas University, a state university established under the then Madhya Pradesh's Vishwavidyalaya Adhiniyam, 1973, when Bilaspur was part of undivided Madhya Pradesh. It was converted to central-university status in 2009 under the Central Universities Act, 2009, which formally removed it from the state Act's schedule while preserving all prior degrees and actions as valid.

The university holds NAAC A++ accreditation, CGPA 3.62, in its Second Cycle, a marked improvement on its First Cycle B grade, CGPA 2.72, from a February 2014 peer-team visit. GGV does not appear in NIRF 2025's University category. It ranked 47th in NIRF 2025 Pharmacy (score 53.36) and fell in the 151-200 band for Engineering, both confirmed directly against nirfindia.org.

GGV organises its academic offerings across 11 Schools of Studies spanning 32 teaching departments: Arts (English and Foreign Languages, Hindi, Journalism and Mass Communication, Library and Information Science), Commerce and Management, Education, Engineering and Technology (Chemical, Civil, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication, Industrial and Production, Information Technology, Mechanical), Interdisciplinary Education and Research (Biotechnology, Forensic Science, Rural Technology and Social Development), Law, Life Science (Botany, Zoology, Anthropology and Tribal Development), Mathematical and Computational Science, Natural Resources (including Pharmacy), Physical Science, and Social Science.

Admission to both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes runs through CUET, applied for via the university's own admission portal, ggvcuet.samarth.edu.in. Undergraduate admission uses CUET-UG, and postgraduate admission uses CUET-PG.

Admissions

As of this writing, the 2026-27 admission cycle is genuinely active. GGV's own portal shows a CUET-UG common merit list published earlier this month, an active PG spot and offline counselling process with published vacancy data, and an M.Tech spot counselling notice published just four days before this page was drafted.
