IIM Sirmaur currently operates from Paonta Sahib, a town on the Himachal Pradesh -- Uttarakhand border in District Sirmaur. The permanent campus at Dhaula Kuan (210 acres, Phase 1 construction) is expected to provide purpose-built academic, residential, and sports facilities for 600+ students. Student clubs cover finance, marketing, consulting, and hospitality management. The campus location provides proximity to the Yamuna basin hill tourism corridor and associated hospitality industry, which supports MBA-THM placement linkages with hotel chains, travel companies, and adventure tourism operators.
IIM Sirmaur is one of the newer IIMs established in the third wave (2015) of IIM expansion, alongside IIM Amritsar, IIM Jammu, IIM Nagpur, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Vishakhapatnam, and IIM Bodh Gaya. Its distinctive offering is the MBA in Tourism and Hospitality Management (MBA-THM), one of very few IIM-branded tourism management programmes in India, with approximately 60 seats per batch. The permanent campus at Dhaula Kuan, District Sirmaur, was approved for Phase 1 construction (60,384 sqm, capacity 600 students) for Rs 392.51 crore; the foundation stone was laid in August 2020. Until permanent campus operations begin, the institute runs from Paonta Sahib, a commercial town on the Uttarakhand border.
One of very few IIM-branded MBA in Tourism and Hospitality Management (~60 seats); covers hotel, aviation, tour operations, and travel sectors; 2023-25 batch avg Rs 13.32 LPA, highest Rs 35 LPA
Rank improved from 98 (2023) to 57 (2024) to 51 (2025) -- 47 positions in two years, reflecting infrastructure and research investment
Rs 20 lakh total (2025-27 batch); lower than most private B-schools at comparable NIRF tier; subsidised as government IIM
Confers a statutory MBA degree, not a PGDM diploma; equivalent in law to degrees from central universities
Himachal Pradesh tourism ecosystem (mountain, pilgrimage, adventure) provides direct industry links for MBA-THM placements with hospitality and travel companies
Honest caveat: IIM Sirmaur is one of India's newest IIMs (est. 2015) and its NIRF ranking dipped to a low of 98th in 2023 before recovering. Placements (avg Rs 13.80 LPA, highest Rs 32.65 LPA for 2023-25 MBA flagship batch) are below the average of older established IIMs. The permanent campus at Dhaula Kuan is under construction; the institute currently operates from temporary premises in Paonta Sahib. AACSB accreditation status is annual member only -- not accredited. Placement data is sourced from aggregators citing the official PDF (image-based, not directly extractable).
