Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry is a central government medical institution of national importance, established by an Act of Parliament under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Parliament declared it an Institution of National Importance in April 2008, placing it alongside AIIMS institutes as an autonomous medical university exempt from MCI/NMC affiliation requirements.
