NIT Puducherry offers B.Tech programmes in five disciplines across 275 seats (JoSAA institute code 215). Admission is through JEE Main via JoSAA counselling. NIT Puducherry operates under a dual seat pool arrangement: 50 per cent of seats are reserved for Puducherry UT and Andaman and Nicobar Islands home-state candidates, with the remaining 50 per cent filled through the All-India pool. This arrangement, unique among NITs, makes JEE Main cut-offs significantly lower for Puducherry domicile applicants. The standard tuition fee is Rs 62,500 per semester for General, OBC-NCL, and EWS students; total institutional fees including hostel charges are approximately Rs 85,200 per semester. Tuition is fully waived for SC, ST, and PwD students.

50% of B.Tech seats reserved for Puducherry UT and A and N Islands residents; substantially lower JEE Main cut-offs than all-India pool

256-acre campus in Karaikal; accessible from Trichy (130 km), Chennai (300 km), and Pondicherry (150 km)
Honest caveat: NIT Puducherry is one of the younger NITs (est. 2009) and carries limitations typical of early-stage growth. NAAC accreditation has not yet been obtained. For the 2023-24 graduating class, 158 of 230 students were placed (68.7% rate) with a median salary of Rs 7 LPA, which is below the median for mid-tier NITs. The campus is in Karaikal, a small coastal town with limited industry presence near the campus; students typically access larger facilities in Nagapattinam (22 km) or travel to Trichy or Chennai for major airports. The 50% state quota, while beneficial for local students, means all-India applicants compete for fewer seats than at comparable NITs.
