SPA Bhopal

SPA Bhopal was established in 2008 by the Ministry of Education, a founding date corroborated independently by the school's own faculty-recruitment advertisement and the JoSAA official institute profile, and it acquired Institution of National Importance status under the School of Planning and Architecture Act, 2014. Its 70-plus-acre residential campus at Neelbad Road, Bhauri, is shared with resident nilgai and migratory bird populations.

Programmes offered

The school's programme portfolio is the broadest of the three government SPAs: a five-year Bachelor of Architecture with 94 seats and a four-year Bachelor of Planning with 38 seats, alongside eight postgraduate programmes with 188 combined seats, spanning M.Arch in Conservation, Landscape, and Urban Design, M.Plan in Environmental Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, and Transport Planning and Logistics Management, a Master of Building Engineering and Management, and a Master of Design. Doctoral and post-doctoral programmes are offered across all departments. The new Integrated B.Plan-M.Plan Dual Degree, launched from academic session 2025-26, lets students exit after four years with a B.Plan or continue to a fifth year for an M.Plan specialisation chosen by the fifth semester.

Admissions

Undergraduate admission to the Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Planning runs through JEE Main Paper 2 or 2B scores allocated by JoSAA, CSAB and DASA counselling. Postgraduate admission across all eight master's programmes runs through JAAP-PG, the joint portal shared by all three government Schools of Planning and Architecture, with supernumerary seats reserved for Kashmiri Migrants and Defence Personnel wards. Per the official JoSAA institute profile, first-semester institute fees total ₹68,450, with SC and ST students exempt from tuition.

Rankings

No NAAC accreditation is held by the school, confirmed by a direct search of NAAC's own master database of 8,353 accredited institutions, which returned zero matches for any School of Planning and Architecture. SPA Bhopal holds Architecture and Planning rank 11 in the official NIRF 2025 rankings with a score of 60.69, up one place from rank 12 the previous year.
