Overview
Developer Advocates (also called Developer Relations / DevRel engineers, Technical Evangelists) bridge product engineering teams and external developer communities — building open-source presence, creating technical content, speaking at conferences, supporting community on Discord/Slack, and gathering developer feedback. DevRel has matured as a discipline at developer-focused product companies in India (Postman, Razorpay Engineering, Vercel India, MongoDB India, Hasura, Atlassian India, GitLab India, GitHub India), plus the foundation-model startups (Sarvam AI, Krutrim). Strong DevRel professionals shape product adoption trajectories.
Day-to-day responsibilities
Build and maintain open-source projects and demo repositories; create technical content (blog posts, video tutorials, livestreams); speak at conferences and meetups (JSConf India, PyCon India, Postman User Group, GitHub Universe, AWS re:Invent); engage on Twitter/X and developer Discord/Slack communities; gather product feedback and channel it to engineering; conduct workshops and hackathons; mentor junior developers; coordinate community ambassador programmes; measure developer adoption metrics (signups, API calls, github stars).
