Symbiosis Law School Pune, commonly known as SLS Pune, is a private law school located on Symbiosis Road, Viman Nagar, Pune. It was established in 1977 as the Symbiosis Society's Law College by Dr S. B. Mujumdar, founder of the Symbiosis group, and is today a constituent institute of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), a private deemed-to-be university recognised by the University Grants Commission. The current Director of SLS Pune is Dr Shashikala Gurpur.
The campus is located in Viman Nagar in eastern Pune, opposite Pune Airport, and is part of the broader Symbiosis Viman Nagar campus shared with other Symbiosis institutes. SLS Pune students have access to five Symbiosis hostels, including the four girls' hostels Daffodil, Daisy, Orchid and Tulip with a combined capacity of around 1,422 students, and the Kopou boys' hostel. Annual hostel charges for 2025-26 range from about Rs 1.47 lakh to Rs 1.94 lakh depending on occupancy and amenities.
The flagship programmes are the five-year integrated BA LLB (Hons) with an intake of 180 students, the BBA LLB (Hons) with an intake of 330 and the BCom LLB (Hons) with an intake of 120, each admitted through the Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT) followed by a Writing Ability Test and Personal Interview. SLS Pune also offers a 3-year LLB with an intake of 60, a 1-year LLM with an intake of 100, and PhD programmes in law.
The total academic cost of each 5-year integrated programme is approximately Rs 25.3 lakh (Rs 5.06 lakh per year, 2024-25). The 3-year LLB total is approximately Rs 10.2 lakh (Rs 3.39 lakh per year) and the 1-year LLM is approximately Rs 2.70 lakh.
In the National Institutional Ranking Framework, SLS Pune was ranked 7 in the Law category in 2025 with a score of 74.07, ranked 5 in 2024 with a score of 74.62, and ranked 6 in 2023 with a score of 66.67, making it the highest-ranked private law school in India for several consecutive years. It has also been ranked the best private law college by Outlook and consistently appears in the top 10 of India Today and The Week law rankings.
In the 2023-24 placement cycle, the BA LLB (Hons) and BBA LLB (Hons) programmes recorded a median package of about Rs 18 LPA, the LLB and LLM programmes a median of about Rs 12 LPA, an average of around Rs 13.31 LPA, a highest domestic package of Rs 22 LPA and a highest international offer of Rs 52 LPA, with around 278 of 297 graduating students placed for an overall placement rate of about 94 per cent. SLS Pune runs six Centres of Specialisation in Public Law and Governance, Private Laws, Transnational and Global Legal Studies, Corporate Laws, Justice Education, and Technology and Innovation Laws. Its publications include the annual Symbiosis Contemporary Law Journal, the annual Symbiosis Student Law Review and the bi-annual Lex-Et Symbiosis Newsletter. Notable alumni include former Supreme Court Judge Justice R. SLAT cutoffs for BA LLB (Hons) at SLS Pune are highly competitive and the institute is not part of the Consortium of NLUs CLAT counselling. The campus is a constituent of the broader Symbiosis Viman Nagar campus rather than a dedicated standalone law campus, and city-side residential pressure means many students live in PG accommodation around Viman Nagar.
