Overview
Naturopathy and Yoga doctors (BNYS graduates) practise drug-free natural medicine — diet therapy, hydrotherapy, fasting, mud therapy, massage, and yoga. The Ministry of AYUSH regulates the credential through the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM). Major wellness resorts and naturopathy hospitals (Jindal Naturecure Bengaluru, Nimba Nature Cure Gujarat, Kerala Ayurveda chains, Patanjali Wellness) employ BNYS doctors. International wellness-tourism demand from Europe and North America is growing. Distinct from BAMS (Ayurveda) — naturopathy uses no herbal medicines, only natural lifestyle interventions.
Day-to-day responsibilities
Conduct patient consultations using naturopathic principles (constitution analysis, dietary history, lifestyle assessment); prescribe diet therapy, fasting protocols, hydrotherapy regimens, mud/sun therapy; design yoga and pranayama practice routines; conduct group therapy sessions; manage wellness-retreat patients on multi-day programmes; refer cases needing surgical or emergency intervention to allopathic specialists; document treatment progress.

BNYS (Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences, 5.5 years) from an NCISM-recognised college. NEET UG is the entrance pathway. MD Naturopathy / MD Yoga and Naturopathy for specialisation. Top institutes: Government Yoga and Naturopathy Medical College Chennai (GYNMC), Sri Sri University Bhubaneswar, S-VYASA Bengaluru, Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga Delhi. Registration with state AYUSH council mandatory.
