Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi is a government medical college and multi-specialty hospital in Jharkhand, established in 1960 as Rajendra Medical College Hospital. The attached hospital began operations in February 1965. The institute was renamed RIMS and granted autonomy in 2002, and now functions as a fully autonomous institute under the Government of Jharkhand rather than as a college affiliated to a state university. It is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for its MBBS programme.
RIMS runs a 2,170-bed multi-specialty hospital attached to the medical college, including a 50-bed trauma centre and a 50-bed central emergency department, along with about 33 clinical departments spanning general medicine, surgery, neurosurgery, cardiology, oncology, and a dedicated dental college.

RIMS Ranchi's presence in NIRF's Medical category could not be confirmed directly from nirfindia.org. The institute does not appear in the official top-50 Medical rankings for 2023, 2024, or 2025, nor in the 2025 list of participated institutes.
RIMS maintains separate hostel accommodation for men and women on its Bariatu campus: 7 boys' hostels with about 1,054 seats and 6 girls' hostels with about 652 seats, covering undergraduate, intern, and postgraduate students. The campus includes landscaped parks, a rebuilt stadium seating about 1,000 spectators, and two auditoriums.
Founded in 1960 as Rajendra Medical College Hospital, RIMS predates Jharkhand's formation as a state and has operated continuously as the region's principal government medical training centre for over six decades.
The 2,170-bed multi-specialty hospital gives MBBS and postgraduate students exposure to high patient volumes across general medicine, surgery, and specialty departments, including a dedicated 50-bed trauma centre and 50-bed central emergency department.
RIMS runs around 33 clinical departments plus DM/M.Ch super-specialty programmes in fields such as neurosurgery, cardiology, and paediatric surgery, uncommon breadth for a state government medical college.
Since being granted autonomy in 2002, RIMS operates as a self-governing institute under the Jharkhand government rather than through university affiliation, giving it more direct control over academic and administrative decisions.
State-quota MBBS admission through JCECEB carries government fee levels well below private-college costs, with a tuition waiver for female students under Jharkhand government policy.
26 courses offered. Fees in INR lakhs.
3 cutoff records across exams, courses, and categories.
