Overview
Urban and regional planners design how cities, towns, and rural regions develop — land use, transport, housing, services, and the built environment. India's Smart Cities Mission (100 cities), AMRUT (urban rejuvenation in 500+ cities), the Metro Rail expansion across 30+ cities, and growing affordable housing programmes have driven sharp demand. Major employers include municipal corporations and development authorities (DDA, MMRDA, BMRDA, HUDA, JDA), state town and country planning departments, urban consulting firms (CEPT Foundation, IBI Group, AECOM India, Egis, Jacobs India), and the rapidly growing real estate / urban tech ecosystem.
